1922
$1 Grant - No Star
Mintage: 5,000
Designer: Laura Gardin Fraser
This
souvenir gold commemorative is the one of the two varieties of
the 1922 Grant $1 Gold Commemorative. Today nearly all known Grant
gold dollars are in varying degrees of Mint State, evidence that
very few were ever sold to the general public. The value of the
1922 "plain" gold dollar in relation to the 1922 Grant
$1 Gold with star has varied over the years. The "plain"
coins were sold for $3.00 in April 1922 while the Grant gold dollars
with the star were sold for $3.50 each. Trial pieces of the gold
dollars exist in white metal and brass, there is no kept record
of any location of these.
