This beautiful silver commemorative was designed
by Adam Pietz to commemorate the one hundredth anniversary of Iowas
statehood. The obverse is an adaptation of the Iowa state seal with
29 stars above the eagle, referring to the fact that Iowa was the
29th state to enter the union, while the reverse reveals a picture
of the first stone capital building at Iowa City. This issue was
first sold to the residents of Iowa only at the initial price of
$2.50 each and only a small remainder (approximately 5,000) of the
original mintage of 100,057 was sold to out-of-state residents at
$3.00 each. The entire issue was sold out within a few weeks.
