Type 3 $1 Gold was minted from 1856 to 1889. This is the third of
the three types of Gold $1 minted. This type is similar to the Type
2 with an enlarged head size being the basic design change. Known
as the Indian Head or large sized type. The weight is .0538
troy oz. with a fineness of .900. The diameter is 15mm and has a
fine Gold content of .0438 troy oz.
